NSFW
NSFW —short for "not safe for work" a common internet acronym denoting explicit content— is a found-imagery series constructed from internet pornography.
I began this series in 2003 while residing in a cramped lower Manhattan apartment. Due to both financial and spacial constraints, I was forced to put the Tape and Scratches series on hold and seek out a different means of creating art. I have always been interested in appropriated imagery, and had already incorporated rephotographed images into early Tape and Scratches pieces. At the time broadband was becoming commonplace and the internet was flush with images, many of them pornographic in nature. I began parodying their obscene nature by montaging them into compositions designed to invoke classical and neoclassical nude figure artwork.
No works in NSFW are currently for sale due to copyright constraints.
